Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Transportation Civil Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the planning, design, and implementation of transportation projects. You will work alongside experienced professionals on projects that include roadway design, traffic engineering, transit systems, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist and execute the design and development of transportation projects, including highways, streets, intersections, and pedestrian facilities.
Conduct field investigations and collect data for traffic studies, roadway assessments, and other transportation-related analyses.
Utilize engineering software (e.g., MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads) to create detailed plans, drawings, and specifications.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including urban planners, environmental scientists, and construction managers, to ensure project success.
Prepare and lead project reports, technical documents, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
Participate in community engagement efforts to gather input and address public concerns related to transportation projects.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards.
Stay current with advancements in transportation engineering and sustainability practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
FE (minimum) or PE (preferred)
Familiarity with transportation engineering principles, practices, and tools.
Experience with engineering software such as Microstation, InRoads, OpenRoads, HEC-RAS, or similar.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Water Resources & Site Development Design Group:
Palmer Engineer’s Water Resources and Site Development Design Group is primarily based out of Lexington and Winchester, Kentucky, offices but provides services through our Midwest and South service areas. Water resources projects range from small-scale drainage studies to large-scale drinking water and clean water infrastructure upgrades. Through a history of successful projects, Palmer Engineering provides services to clients from the initial planning phases through design to construction completion.
Through an integrated approach to all stages of land development, Palmer Engineering guides clients through the entire process of project design, from due diligence, initial site planning, and final engineering, and surveying. Engineering integrated with in-house planning and surveying excellence, resulting in quality service and project delivery in a timely and cost-effective manner. Palmer Engineering’s skilled site development team engages with high-priority clients on a wide range of project types, including commercial, retail, and residential developments, industrial and office parks, educational and governmental facilities, housing developments, and public infrastructure.
Job Description – Civil Project Manager:
The successful candidate will be joining our Water Resources and Site Development Design group in Lexington or Winchester, KY. The Civil Project Manager position is ideal for a motivated candidate with at least five (5) years of experience in the site development, water resources, and/or utility design industries. The candidate must demonstrate self-motivation, the desire to learn new skills, and the ability to work in a team environment while adapting to working on a variety of projects. The Civil Project Manager Job duties are expected to include:
Overseeing tasks related to conceptual design layout, stormwater analysis, grading and erosion control, utility relocations and extensions, and water quality infrastructure.
Perform design calculations, sketches, technical comparisons, and similar technical work.
Check, interpret, and revise engineering drawings.
Plan and conduct code research.
Coordinate with our in-house team members and other disciplines on design teams.
Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with design plans, specifications, and safety standards.
Collaborate with architects, surveyors, contractors, and local authorities to coordinate project activities and resolve any issues that arise during construction.
Lead the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and construction schedules.
Participate in project meetings and contribute to the development of innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
Continuously monitor and document project progress, providing updates to clients and project stakeholders
Professional Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and a minimum five (5) years of related industry experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure within six (6) months of employment
Proven ability to multi-task, appropriately prioritize workflow and complete tasks.
Experience with design software; Ideally knowledgeable in AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil3D.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
A valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
Familiarity with drainage analysis software.
