• US 460 - Pike County, KY

The US 460 Reconstruction Project is one of the most ambitious and technically complex rural highway projects in Kentucky’s history. As lead designer for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Palmer Engineering delivered end-to-end services to complete 9 miles of new four-lane highway from KY 195 to the Virginia state line.

The project has earned top industry honors, including the 2026 ACEC of Kentucky Grand Conceptor Award and a national Grand Award from ACEC. It is also one of just twelve projects nationwide to be recognized at the upcoming 2026 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in Washington, D.C.

US 641 - Calloway County, KY

The US 641 project in Calloway County, Kentucky, transformed a once high-risk rural corridor into a modern, safer, and more efficient roadway. Spanning more than five miles from the Tennessee state line to south of Murray, the project reconstructed and relocated the route into a four-lane divided highway designed to enhance mobility and reduce traffic conflicts.

By incorporating innovative solutions such as Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) intersections and carefully navigating environmental and utility constraints, the project delivered measurable results. Within just two years of completion, total and injury crashes dropped by approximately 80%—creating a dramatically safer corridor for more than 6,000 daily users.

GRAVES ROAD / I-275 INTERCHANGE DESIGN BUILD

Palmer Engineering served as the Lead Design Consultant on the Design-Build Team (DBT) for the on-going project to rebuild Graves Road from KY-20 to KY-237 and construct a new Double Crossover Diamond (DCD) Interchange for I-275. The Eaton Asphalt DBT was awarded the selection by KYTC District 6 in August 2019.

  • US 20 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

Palmer Engineering prepared plans for the replacement of the 1930s vintage, 27-span continuous concrete slab bridge that carries US 20 over two lines of Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. The crossing was complicated by a high degree of skew between the railroad lines and the highway, as well as the need for the new bridge to span two additional railroad lines that may be added in the future.
