Surveying instruments and methods have evolved to unimaginable levels of accuracy and ease of use since the founding of Palmer Engineering. Technological advancements lead to electronic distance measurement (EDM), satellite surveying through the Global Positioning System (GPS), and quick three-dimensional laser surveying using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR). We have embraced these advancements by continually updating equipment to offer our clients advanced performance and the latest capabilities.
US-460, Pike County – The project consists of the relocation of US-460 from US-23 at Yeager to the Virginia State line. More than 55 miles of alternate corridors and 13 alternate alignments were included in the Planning Study. Reviews of potential environmental impacts, as well as the development of roadway geometrics and phase cost estimates, were also required.
KY-4, New Circle Road, Fayette County – In 2000, Palmer Engineering was selected as part of a team to prepare a Scoping Study for the widening of 6.1 miles of New Circle Road (KY-4) in Lexington, KY.
Pike and Johnson Counties – These three projects involved the replacement of rural bridges in Pike andJohnson Counties, KY. Palmer’s survey staff was responsible for gathering the topographic information required for the analysis and design phase. These responsibilities included: project control by GPS and conventional methods, DTM, bridge modeling, and hydraulics surveys.
